I began reading your blog last night in my search for "icd implantation procedures" Typically I skip over blogspot websites because I was looking more for detailed facts about the procedure. But, when I found myself on your page, reading about your family I was shocked by how incredibly similar out stories are. It seems as though God granted a miracle for you and it went so well that he granted one for us as well.

Last year, July 7th to be exact, my little brother (19 at the time) had a cardiac arrest while at an early morning swim practice. Reading your story was like reliving ours. He received cpr on the pool deck and was shocked 5 times by the AED. I still think abot how amazing it was that during such an awful event things went so incredibly well. at the hospital they could not stop his heart from going into an erratic heart beat and they were concerned about his brain function so they used the arctic sun on him and lowered his body temp, as they did your son.Jordan was in his cold coma as we call it for 2 days. At one point they wanted to check his brain function so they allowed the sedation to wear off and him to wake up a bit.I remember us all waiting nervously by his bedside as we prayed that he would still have brain function. We could see him trying to open his eyes and we could see the concentration on his face as he tried so hard to give us that thumbs up. The next day they warmed his body temp and allowed him to wake up all the way. The nurses had to tie his arms to the bed because he was trying to pull out his breathing tubes and we had to constantly remind him to relax as he was trying so hard to open his eyes and figure out what was happening to himself. He's a fighter just like Grant I suspect. After he was awake we were thankful, surprised, and basically overly emotional to find that the 20 pound lighter Jordan in front of us was still our Jordan. Sense of humor (although loopy from all the meds), smile, mannerisms were all our Jordan. After concern of an infection because of a fever and some lasting concerns of still not knowing what exaclty caused the cardiac arrest Jordan received his ICD.
In the months following this event we have come to find that Jordan has Long QT Syndrome, a condition which has also been found in me (hence the google search that led me to you). We are so thankful and grateful for everyday that we get to have Jordan here but as you probably know it is still hard to cope with what has happened. Jordan was a collegiate swimmer and is not longer able to compete which has been a hard adjustment for him and for all of us.

Anyway, I just wanted to contact you and let you know that even though your event was 2 years ago you are not alone. I am so happy that things turned out as they did for your family. I have read about the whole year of your life in 2008 and you are a great writer. Thank you for sharing your story on here. In some way it has been comforting.

Sincerely,
Lindsay B.Lindsayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02862614625016383290noreply@blogger.com
