Government, Geraniums and Geese

Well today was a crazy day. Government shut downs are kind of like a blue moon in the US but they are more normal in other parts of the world. I guess we just think that we are smarter than other countries and that we shouldn't find ourselves in these kinds of messes. Well, we are in a mess but that is no surprise to God on this 1st day of Oct 2013.

Sowing produces a crop and is in keeping with the seeds that have been sown and we are seeing that played out on the national and international stage today. It should come as no surprise.

But what about us as individuals? How are you doing in your own internal government? We all are in charge of governing our members within our own bodies and that can take a variety of forms including worry, despair, anger and the likes. 

Does the US governmental shutdown worry you? Are you thinking the best or the worst? Are your thoughts today of moving into a bomb shelter or lines of people standing by a single location to acquire a little bit of food? Guns. Tanks. Bunkers. Police-state. 

If these are consuming your thoughts because of the US issues or maybe they consume your thoughts on a daily basis because you'd like to be more in control of your life and future here's some principles worth being reminded of.

"Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin."

This doesn't say that we are not to plan but rather that we are not to boast in our plans for success. Success is granted from only ONE Source. God. You can work the best plan on the planet and still lose it all. Plenty of really smart people have "lost it all" over the decades and have been just fine for eternity.

"Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin,  yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’"

Do you ever watch a flock of birds flying over your neighborhood? Or how about a single bird hopping in your tree and then to the lawn and then through the flowers and BAMM, your cat gets it. Whether it's 10k birds or a single bird they are all lumped into this paragraph. 

Now what about flowers? They are all decked out in the most amazing colors and textures. We cut them and put them in a vase and in a few days they are wilting and then a few days later they are thrown out. All that energy and in a fews days they're gone.

God knows about birds, flowers and P&Ls. He knows what we need and He's got it in His control. Whewwww. We can rest on that one. We can rest on Him.

So whether it's government shut-downs our personal melt-downs our focus needs to be on what is right and true. He knows what we need and He will always deliver just that. It probably will not come 2 weeks early or 3 months early but it also won't come late.



So sleep like a baby tonight knowing He is got your back and mine.
