There is a young lady who used to go to our church and she has walked away from her family and the Lord, but she told her dad not to give up on her.
This is a reminder that all of us were at one time going our own way and rebellious, not wanting to submit to authority, especially God. Our Heavenly Father doesn't give up on His children and we should not continue to pursue those who are going astray and pray for them.
This statement from this girl encourages me that her heart may still break. Larnell Harris sings a song entitled, "As long as the heart still breaks there is hope", and that is so true. If our hearts can be broken by the Lord, there is hope for Him to work.
My mom never gave up praying for me, and I am so thankful for that. Keep praying for them. God can work.

A Joy filled Heart
"It's a snap, to find that one single person in the entire world that fills your heart with joy".
Some of you will know where that quote came from, but I'm going to make you wait, if you don't.
What the entire world wants is to have their heart filled with joy and they will go to endless lengths to fill that said heart with whatever seems like it will bring joy. I, personally, know that Solomon is right when he says that all the things we run after are only vanity.
I have been able to do some of the craziest things, that many would give much of who they are to do. Let me give you some examples; I married my high school sweetheart, I have 3 amazing kids who love the Lord, I get to run a business that sells to peoples wants rather than their needs, I have great employees who do whatever it takes to get the job done. I have been to Disney Land and World, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, Singapore, India, many of the States of this greatest nation on God's green earth. I have been ON the Price is Right, taken a ride on the Seattle Sonics airplane with them, played cards and watched the BCS championship game with Ray Allen and that's just the things I can remember right now.
I don't write all those things to gloat, as they are really none of my own doing, and all quite ridiculously out of my control. I have experienced these things and do they bring lasting joy? No. We often look forward to vacations, births, business trips and people as our ticket to joy and lasting happiness, but that's not where it is found.
There is one single person who is able to fill our hearts with LASTING joy and that is Jesus Christ. Often we are looking to the world for this kind of joy instead of "looking only to Christ". The world is looking for the joy that only Christ can give, but we need to be a shining example of the joy only He can bring.
"If I hadn't been 'Fox Books' and you hadn't been the 'Little shop around the Corner', maybe things could have been different". If we hadn't been searching for joy and love in everything else in the world, maybe, just maybe, we would see that lasting joy is not found in a movie like "You've got Mail", but ONLY in Christ. He is the answer.

A Glad Father
Proverbs 10:1 A wise son makes a glad father,
but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.
2 Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit,
but righteousness delivers from death.
3 The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry,
but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.
4 A slack hand causes poverty,
but the hand of the diligent makes rich.
5 He who gathers in summer is a prudent son,
but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.
I can speak from experience that when God gives you a wise son, or sons, there is much to rejoice and be thankful for. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom", Prov.1:7 I can take no credit for how well my kids are turning out, but in spite of my weak parenting skills and lack of time spent with them, they are 3 great kids that God is drawing to Himself. I love you guys.
It is interesting the Solomon turns it around and says "the foolish son is a sorrow to his mother", not the father. I'm not exactly sure why that is.
The rest of these verses are verses in which there is a contrastive as well, but the topic is more about working and being diligent in our efforts. God is the One who gives and takes away, supplies or thwarts, makes our labors prosper or fail and He wants us to work with all our might at what our hands find to do. We must keep in perspective that He honors the righteous but not the wicked.
I have been thinking much about how my righteousness, or lack there of, effects so many more people than just myself. If God blesses the righteous and not the wicked, I can't "afford" to be wicked.
I must work hard and not be a slacker, be righteous and treat others as Christ would treat them, and He will handle the rest.
I have a long way to go, but the great thing is that God finishes what He starts and He has given me an interest in spiritual things, so He will finish His work in me.

Prayer Works
I just want to give you a "prayer works" encouragement.
Yesterday I had some meetings away from the shop and in between those meeting I took some time to pray about my own need of repentance and having my heart fixed on God, but I also was praying for God to bless PG with some traffic and some signed contracts.
I am not some powerful prayer warrior, who God is required to listen to when I speak. This is evidence that God listens to a lowly beggar who has nothing to bring to Him but need. There is no credit due me; He is the only One working here.
I am really starting to enjoy time with Him, as He is so faithful. I finished praying and went to the next meeting and then hopped back in the car to head toward the shop. I often call in to see how things are going and when I did the staff told me that it had been REALLY crazy good at the shop. "Coincidentally?", NOT, it had been really busy almost exactly at the very time I had been praying. God is good.
I remember another time that this happened the exact same way. When Grant was in the hospital and they were going to try to wake him up from his paralysis everyone was praying at the same time for him, and God woke him up at almost the exact same time as everyone one praying.
I know I have said this many times, and it is as much for me as it is for everyone else. Prayer really does work and it should come as no surprise to us that God does answer. It is a sad state of the condition of my heart to see how slow I am to pray, especially after He has so graciously answered in the past. Prayer is our first and best weapon, because God hears us when we call.

Repentance and Affections. Connected?
What do repentance and our "Religious Affections" have to do with each other? Can we repent and not have our affections changed? Can we have worldly affections and also have true repentance?
Where do our affections come from? Are our actions guided by something other than our affections? Is being passionate about something the same as having an affection for it? Can we have affections for something w/o having thought about it?
I have just started listening to "The Religious Affections" and was struck by the fact that my affections are really the evidence of whether I am a Christian or not. I know that many of you are saying, "dah", but I'm a little slow.
Jonathan Edwards gives the idea that there is no movement, no working, no motivation to do ANYTHING without affection. If you don't have affection for your work, you will not get up in the morning. The greatest business people in the world have great affections for something that causes them to work long and hard to achieve some product or skill so they can move toward achieving some end. Their thoughts and life are consumed with doing this thing; figuring it out to make it "better" Affections are what cause people to go to any number of crazy lengths to win the heart of another. The motivation for the affections may be difficult to pin point, but it is affection for something is what drive us to do anything.
What about repentance? How is repentance effected by our affections? If our affections are for things that are earthly in nature, there will be no need of repentance in our minds, the starting point of affections, because we will think that our affections are perfectly placed. If a business man thinks that making money, a large portfolio and a gigantic empire is the way to happiness for himself and providing lavishly for his family and friends, then he will go to almost any length to attain that end. But what if his affections were changed to a more eternal perspective on his position? Would/could that have an effect on his affections? Would repentance have anything to do with the new affections?
I believe, and I hope, in a Biblical way, that repentance has much, or maybe everything to do with our affections. Let me ask, "if there is no repentance, how can our affections be well placed on eternal things"? How can one who is blind see the light of the glories of Heaven and then place his affections on something he has not "seen"? If we are not to love this world, neither the things in this world, 1 John 2:15, if we are not to store up for ourselves treasure on earth, Matt. 6:19-20, then how can this happen in our hearts w/o true repentance? Jesus tells us in the next verse in Matt. 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart, or affections, will be also.
To tie this together in a shorter fashion, and combine 2 snow retreat topics together; When we repent and turn away from sin-the world and all that is in the world- and turn toward joy- treasures in Heaven- then our affections are changed. It is not until God changes our affections that they are changed. We will always be desiring what this world has to offer and going after "bigger and better" until He changes our heart which will change our affections.
So how do you know if your affections are well placed? How do you know if you have true "Religious Affections"? The heart is deceitful and desperately wicked, but God can and does know it. We must be very careful in our own evaluation of our hearts. We must ask God to reveal our true character and desires, but He will do this for us when we earnestly seek Him.
Ask God to show you where your affections lie. Your affections are the things that you would never want to live without. These are the things that when the "house burns down" you go back in to get. Things you would give your very life for. Some things that could be on your list; kids, spouse, position at work, money, security, looks, clothes, vacations, and the list goes on and on. What are your most valued treasures? What are the things that consume your thoughts every day? If God and His Word are not on THE top of the list, and IN everything on the list, then our affections are not well placed. WE often compartmentalize our lives and say that we had our time with God, "check", and so we go off to do our life without Him in the rest of our day.
If our affections are well placed, God will be supreme above everything on our list and He will be IN everything on our list. So instead of having a business that puts God on top, we can have a business that puts God IN everything. With every decision made, God's wisdom is sought. Instead of having your quiet time and then spending the day with your kids, your time with the Lord extends throughout the entire day, which involves spending time with your kids. This is Christocentric living. Christ is the center and everything revolves around Him. He is in the middle of everything we do.
I hope this makes sense. When our affections are for Christ and His Word first and to the uttermost, then we, by God's grace, are on the right track.

The Most Amazing Night EVER
Luke 2:8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. 10 And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
14 "Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"
15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
There a couple of things that stand out to me here.
These were some godly shepherds. Why else would the Lord chose to send His angels to them?
The presence of angel brings fear to the hearts of men. These were no wimpy guys and they were afraid. The angel tells them to "fear not".
The shepherds were expecting the Messiah. These men had been reading about this day for probably their entire lives and it had finally come.
The angel expected them to go with hesitation to see their Messiah. He told them what the sign would be, "Find the babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger" and there wouldn't be a way for them to see the sign without going.
There was some great singing in the night sky. When the sky is filled with singing, that is a big place to fill. The angels understand how special the Messiah is and they express that by singing with all their might.
This was big and the shepherds knew it. They knew it enough to leave their flocks right where they were, in the nigh, when animals of prey come and attack the flock, but that didn't slow them down, "they went with haste".
Mary knew that what the angel had told her was true and now she had physical proof that it was true. She must have been amazed that God had chosen her to be the mother of the Son of God. "She pndered all these things in her heart".
The shepherds went back to work, but they were no doubt changed men when they returned. Can you imagine the breakfast table the next morning? They had seen the long awaited Messiah, and they would never be the same again.
When God calls His children to do something, He is expecting us to do it immediately. He expects us to be waiting, with anticipation, His return. He expect us to be pondering and meditating on His Word so that we would be righteous ones when He returns.
What a glorious day tat was, when God sent His Son to the earth to be a payment for our sins. "What wondrous love is this oh my soul".

Renovation
"Let me know the need of restoration as well forgiveness of sins,
in order to serve and enjoy thee forever."
Valley of Vision
God's company, PG, is in the counter top business and often that is connected to the remodel business. He is currently providing work for many people through His grace.
I find it interesting that the term "Renovation" was used in this prayer. It conjures up numerous thoughts for me.
Renovation is all about taking something that is old and potentially dilapidated and making it better, or new. We have many projects right now in various stages of renovation. Some are just minor remodels, but others have been gutted and literally will be an entirely new house when they are finished. Is my heart in need of renovation? What junk needs to come out? Is there anything in my heart that I am not willing to part with?
Renovation means that we are taking something old out to make room for the new. Generally people don't just take something out and not replace it. Before the project even starts they are thinking about what new thing can go in the space to make it more usable and enjoyable. When God has convicted me of what needs to come out, what new piece will replace the old? Is there something I need to instill in my heart to make me more useful to Him.
Renovation/remodeling is a lot of work. Many people are totally worn out when they have finished their projects. I often remind them why they started the process in the first place; they want to have a great place to call "home". Heart renovation is also a lot of work and the only purpose for remodeling our hearts is to give God a place to dwell that is worthy of His glory. That means no evil can reside where Christ lives. Only a clean heart can be home to the Lord.
God, clear out all that is old and sinful in my heart and make for Yourself an abode where You are pleased to dwell. I can't make a clean heart, I only can give You my willingness for You to do the work. My desire would naturally be to live with the old self in place, but You can, and have, changed my desires to long for a clean, pure heart, devoid of sin and evil, for You to dwell.
Continue the work in me, though it is hard, it is for my good and Your glory. Give me longings for You and Your Word that the process would not stop short of You bringing me to completeness in the image of Your Son. Let all who watch the process be encouraged and also long for Your work in their own hearts and when You have completed the work in each one of our hearts may the world know it is You who has done it and may they stand in amazement of Your perfect craftsmanship. You are good and we know that You always finish the projects You have started.
