The Measure of a Soul

"The worth and excellency of a soul is measured by the object of its love" (Henry Scougal)

"The worth and excellency of a soul is measured by the object of its love" (Henry Scougal)

Somethings are worth reading more than once and I think this is one of them. If our affections are on seen things they can rise only as high as the worth of what is seen, but if our affections are on the unseen things of God, then there is no limit to our affections because there is no limit to our Great God.

We can not have eyes to see the unseen glories of His majesty unless He gives us sight to see. We cannot hear the Good News of His Gospel, but He give us ears to hear and We cannot understand any of Who He Is, unless He gives a heart of understanding.

So our soul's worth can only be high if He gives us the best objects to be loving. There is no boasting in this as He is the Giver and He is the Object. We can only hope to be a chosen, empty vessel that He delights to give right affections to.
