Trust and Obey

I have had many opportunities in the last few weeks, and recently in the past couple of days, to try to figure things out on my own or to try to work my own plan. Grant's event has really helped me to understand that I am not in control, and neither is anyone else, and that we need to follow the principles we learn from God's Word and then just trust that He will work it out for our good and His glory. I do understand that this is much easier to write down on the test than it is to put into practice, but God grows our faith so when we come to a situation that requires more faith than we think we have, we can then rest in His previously shown faithfulness. "Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His Word" comes to mind.

As I was walking this morning and thinking about the conversations I have had this week. People have let me in on the hurt and uncertainty they have in their lives and I don't have answers, but I can look back and see that God is good and He gives us what we need, even though I don't have any idea why things go the way that they do, still I know that I can trust Him.

Matt. 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Oh, how much easier our lives would be if we would just give Him our burdens and let Him carry them, and if we would just trust His Word and rest in His promises. Then we could truly rest. How sweet would that rest be? Much better than a Sunday afternoon nap:)

This old song is so true and simple and the words are right on.

When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

We can look forward to that day with great anticipation, and we can also have that sweetness today if we trust and obey.
