Eph. 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
Such a rich passage that I certainly can't post just one post, as it would be way too long.
How can it be that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing through Christ, and yet often I act as if I need more? Personally I can't fully imagine what every blessing looks like, but one day I will have a better understanding; oh for that day.
But until then this passage tells me that there is a reason that He chose me before the foundation of the world. This choosing was not because f anything that I have done, or can do in the future. He didn't save me so I can change the world, but He did choose me so I could live holy and blameless before Him. WOW, that is His purpose?
Often I think that He chose me to do some work so He can be glorified; say something so He gets praise; and this passage tells me that He chose me "That I should be holy and blameless". This is certainly not something that I can do on my own and it is certainly not something that the world would aspire to and yet that is why He chose me.
Why would He choose something that is neither desired by the world or accomplished w/o Him? Set apart and utterly dependent are the reasons He chose the Jews, and then all Christians. "So that none could boast". There is no way I can be holy and blameless without Him giving the desire and doing the work. Not "glamorous", but commanded.
Lord, give me the desire and then work in me to be all that You that You have called me to be. Don't let me follow other pleasures, even for a season or a day. Give me delight in all that You are. Don't let me seek pleasure in broken cisterns, but make me to always be desiring drinking from Your fountain. I am easily distracted, easily fearing the future, but You have already taken care of my every need and You have promised to provide all that I need. Without You I have nothing that is good and with You I have no need of anything. May I rejoice in that and give You praise. Thank You for all that You have done and are doing.
