1 Peter 1:6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
There is more of God to be had in times of suffering than any other time." J.Piper
If this John Piper quote is true then should we not greatly rejoice in our trials if we truly want more of God? The question came up in our small group today, "Should we then pray for trials in our lives, as this brings us closer to Christ?"
Thoughts?

Hello, Chuck.
When it comes to any trial, I think it would be in our best interest to pray for the Father's grace to handle the trial in a Christ-honoring way. I think Scripture tells us that they will come and not to be surprised about them. In that case I am on my knees begging for grace so my heart, mind, soul and all that I am can handle it in a way that would bring honor and glory to my King, Jesus Christ!
