John 4:29 "Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?"
What a great line in such a great story. Men weren't supposed to be talking with women, except to order them around. This is the personal Savior speaking to a woman who has had a very rough life. She has had 5 husbands and the man she is living with currently is not her husband. She is basically a legal prostitute and a slave. BUT, the King if ALL kings is at the well that she "happens" to come to, and He tells her the entire story of her life in about 2 sentences.
A few things hit me in this story.
Jesus doesn't care about the traditions and perceptions of the people of the day; He needs to talk to this woman; really she needs for Him to talk to her. Jesus knew what His work was on earth.
Jesus is God and He knows every details about every person in the universe. I have a hard time just figuring out what I should be doing and how it will effect the people around me. He knows His children.
Jesus not only knows about every detail, but He cares for His children. Jesus could have walked right by and not talked to this woman, and everyone would have thought it perfectly normal. But Jesus saw her need and sorrow and chose to go out of His way to show His omniscience to her. He cares for His children.
When Jesus walks into your life and chooses to draw you to Himself, there is no resisting. When we see where we have come from, where we are, and where we are going without Him and He then chooses to give us a glimpse of all that we could have, life should never be the same after that. He draws His children.
Is God giving you a little glimpse into what you have right now, futile as it may be? Is He showing you what you might have if you chose to follow Him? Are you going to let go of what you currently have and follow Him? There may be consequences remaining from the life you have lived previously, like this woman, but today is a new day to follow after the one "Who told me everything I ever did". This IS The Christ.
